EqueTrainer

One record per horse, held by the whole care team.

For people who never stop thinking about their horses.

One

The mark

A single-colour horse head, drawn flat and used flat. It is a signature, not an illustration: it never carries a gradient, a shadow or a second colour inside one surface.

On Bone
The EqueTrainer horse head mark
On Charcoal
Clear space
Half the mark’s own height, on every side. Nothing enters that space — not type, not a photograph detail, not the edge of the page.
Minimum size
24 px tall on screen · 8 mm tall in print. Below that the ear and the muzzle close up.
Lockup
The mark, then the word EqueTrainer in the text face at bold. The wordmark is never letter-spaced, outlined, or set in the display face.
On dark ground
On Charcoal the mark holds at 6.7:1 and reads as a signature. On Bone it sits at 2.8:1 — a soft detail rather than a strong mark — so let the wordmark carry the name on light surfaces.

Two

Colour

Five colours, each with one job. Bone is the page, Charcoal is the moment, orange is the signal, and copper and warm gray hold the detail. Nothing else is introduced.

Oranges in circulation

Each of these already exists somewhere in the product, the site or the filings. Two are variants with a defined licence; the last is an open decision rather than a definition.

  • Hero Orange · #FB923CHeadline emphasis on CharcoalThe emphasised phrase in the homepage hero. Dark ground only.
  • Print Orange · #FF6A13Print and patent filingsHolds in four-colour print and in filings. Not for screen.
  • Mockup Orange · #FF7518The homepage mockupsBelongs to the drawn phone screens in the marketing carousel. Those are pictures of the product, not the product.
  • Mark Terracotta · #ED7A49The supplied logo fileThe mark’s own colour, and an open decision: either the mark moves to Brand Orange, or the brand moves to this warmer terracotta. Until then the two are not the same orange.

How a composition is built

  • Mostly Bone — the paper is the composition.
  • One Charcoal block per composition: the hero, a closing statement, or a single editorial panel. Not two.
  • Orange as accent only: a rule, a label, a button, one emphasised phrase. Roughly five percent of the surface.
  • White is reserved for cards sitting on Bone. A page background is never pure white.

Three

Typography

One warm serif for the brand, one Swiss grotesque for everything a person has to read at speed. The pair does the work: the serif makes it feel like EqueTrainer, the grotesque keeps a table of checks readable at arm's length.

For people who never stop thinking about their horses.

A warm, rounded serif that carries the brand’s voice: hero headlines, page titles, the founder speaking, large numerals. Headings only — it is never set as running text.

Three checks a night, logged from the aisle, on a phone holding one bar of signal.

A Swiss grotesque built for small sizes and long tables. Everything else in the product: body copy, labels, forms, tables, navigation, buttons.

Setting rules

  • Three text weights only — regular, medium, bold. If a fourth is needed, the layout is wrong.
  • The display face sets headings, never sentences; the text face never sets a hero headline.
  • Tighten large headings (-0.01 to -0.02em). Open small uppercase labels (+0.08em).
  • A reading column stops at about 62 characters. A wide table may run to about 90.
  • Numbers that sit in a column are tabular, so digits line up down the column.
  • The system font stack is the product’s safety net, not a brand face.

Four

Space and shape

The product is dense, so the shape language stays quiet: one radius for panels, one hairline for separation, one soft shadow, and a spacing scale that nothing is allowed to escape from.

Spacing

One scale, from four to ninety-six pixels. Padding, gaps and section rhythm are all drawn from it — nothing is nudged into place by hand.

Five

Photography

Photographs are the proof that this platform is used in real barns. They are shot in natural light, graded warm, and never asked to do a job that type should do alone.

What we shoot

  • Real barns, real horses, natural light. A horse mid-check reads better than a horse posed.
  • A warm grade held just below true white, so charcoal type sits on the picture comfortably.
  • Hands and people at work — a record is kept by a person, and the pictures should say so.
  • Type over a photograph only with a charcoal scrim behind it, 70% at the darkest point.

What we never shoot

  • Glossy stock imagery: perfect arenas, no mud, no weather, no winter.
  • Cool blue grades or heavy vignettes that fight the warm palette.
  • A photograph behind small text with no scrim behind it.
  • Composites a barn would recognise as generated rather than taken.

Type over a photograph

A charcoal scrim, 70% at its darkest, so the headline belongs to the picture instead of sitting on it.

The panel above is the treatment, not a photograph: where a picture goes, the same charcoal wash goes behind the words, and it never drops below 70% under the text.

Six

Voice

Plain, specific and calm. The brand never sells the machinery underneath the product; it describes what the product notices, and who it tells.

Plain, not clever

Write what the platform does, in the words a barn already uses. If a sentence needs a second read, rewrite it.

Specific, not sweeping

A number, a time, a place. “Three checks a night, logged from the aisle” is worth more than “seamless workflows”.

Calm, not urgent

No exclamation marks, no countdowns, no hype. The product is the reassurance; the copy does not need to be.

The person first, the software second

The horse and the person caring for it lead. The platform is how that care is held together.

Say what it does, not what it is built on

Describe the capability — it notices a missed check and tells the right person. The brand never advertises the machinery underneath it.

First person for the founder

The founder writes as herself: what she saw, what she tried, why she built it. Never a press-release voice.

Say this, not that

  • One record per horse, shared with the whole care team.

    Revolutionary end-to-end equine ecosystem.

  • It notices a missed check and tells the right person.

Leverages advanced models to optimise outcomes.

  • Every entry keeps the time it happened, not the time it was written down.

    Robust, fault-tolerant data pipeline.

  • Built with a barn, for a barn.

    Best-in-class, industry-leading solution.

Seven

The rules that matter

If only one part of this page is read, it should be this one.

Always

  • Give the mark clear space, and one flat colour per surface.
  • Let Bone carry the page and Charcoal carry the moment.
  • Spend orange once per view: it is a signal, not a decoration.
  • Set headings in the display face and everything else in the text face.
  • Keep the status colours for status only — never as brand colour.

Never

  • Stretch, rotate, outline, recolour or shadow the mark.
  • Set body copy in the display face, or a hero headline in the text face.
  • Set orange text under 19 px on a light surface — use Ink Orange there.
  • Add a sixth colour, or a gradient that is not charcoal to charcoal.
  • Let colour alone carry a state: a label or an icon goes with it.

Eight

Assets

The files and codes to take away, and how to ask for a format that is not here yet.

The mark

The supplied file is the 500 px transparent PNG used across the product, the site and the emails.

A reversed mark, a single-colour SVG and the EPS files a print partner will ask for are not produced yet. Ask, and they will be made.

Colour codes

Take the palette straight into a design file or a stylesheet.

Status colours — for status only

  • Normal · paid · live
  • Monitoring · overdue
  • Critical · failed
  • Information

Anything here can be produced in another form: logo files for a printer, a one-page summary to send a partner, swatches for a deck. Ask, and it will be made.
